How often are open houses held?
"Open house" dances are held several times a year for people with little
or no square dancing experience. Come meet us, and find out how much fun
square dancing is!
Can I try it without obligation?
Absolutely! The first step requires no commitment! Spend an evening with
us at an open house, learn the basics and meet the Chesapeake Squares.
Do I need experience?
No, we will teach you everything you need to know. People who have never
danced are invited to join beginning square dance classes. Most of us knew
nothing about square dancing before joining the group. Some of us swore
that we had "two left feet" and couldn't dance at all! We remember what it
was like for us when we were learning. Therefore, the teaching is gentle,
encouraging, supportive, and fun.
When and where are the dance classes held?
Classes for beginning square dancers are held in convenient Baltimore
locations, based on the schedule that works for each class. Contact us by
email
to find out when the next class is scheduled to begin.
What does it cost?
Open houses are always free!
The cost of the class and membership in the club is always announced when the classes are scheduled, based on the cost of the space and callers we use. Typically it's around $50 for the class and a quarterly membership.
You do not need to be enrolled in a class to come and dance on club nights, but you do need to have graduated from a Mainstream program or be able to dance it. The per-night fee for those who are not currently paid club members is $8. Of course, anyone is welcome to come socialize with us on any club night without dancing.
Do I have to attend class regularly?
Yes. Each session introduces new calls that build on the previous lessons.
Regular attendance helps everyone have a good time.
