Welcome
to Crossfire XX! Labor Day Weekend: September 4 - 7,
2009 Crossfire
XX - Scoot Back Down to Chi-Town is shaping up into a FAB-U-LOUS 4-day weekend!
The weekend will feature the 'Good Twins' (or is it Evil this time?) team of Saundra
Bryant and Anne Uebelacker starting
off Friday night. There will be two rooms of dancing from Mainstream thru Challenge
all weekend. First,
Chicago's venerable GLBT country & western bar, Charlie's, will be hosting
a welcome party for us on Friday afternoon, 4:00-7:00 PM. They will be putting
out some free munchies, possibly have drink specials and prizes, and may even
throw on a square dance record. Then after the dancing at the Center is over,
on both Friday and Saturday night, we are welcome to come back for two-stepping
and line dancing until 1:30 AM. Charlie's is located at 3726 N Broadway, a short
2-minute walk from the Center. Saturday
includes 3 dances, wrapping up with a "Blast from the Past" dance on Saturday
night. Everyone is encouraged to wear Classics T-shirts from any of our
past Crossfires. Sunday continues with brunch at a nearby Chicago landmark restaurant,
followed by a Homecoming Dance, where we encourage former dancers who would
like to get back into the camaraderie of square dancing to join us for a delightful
afternoon. There's even rumor of a Moonshine Tip afterward. You're free
Sunday evening to enjoy Chicago and all it has to offer. Another
new and exciting development, Crossfire has moved to The Center on Halsted,
Chicago's LGBTQ Community Center in the heart of Chicago's gay Lakeview neighborhood.
While taking a break from dancing, you can enjoy the view from the rooftop deck,
lounge on the second floor, or enjoy a scoop of gelato from Whole Foods on the
first floor. Between dances, enjoy a wide range of great restaurants within a
few blocks. It's easy to get to via the CTA
Red Line. While
we try to accommodate everyone with host housing if requested, there are also
a choice of fantastic hotels in the neighborhood, or
you can stay once again at the Hilton on Michigan Avenue,
the host hotel for the IAGSDC 2010 Convention: Chi-Town Shakedown! After
your Sunday night rest, Monday we return to our usual haunt at Ebenezer Lutheran
Church for the traditional potluck and trail-out dancing, featuring John
Oldfield, Kris Jensen, Michael
Maltenfort, and Arlene Kaspik. Bring a dish
if you can, and come enjoy some great cooking and great hospitality from Chi-Town
Squares. And don't forget great dancing! Make
sure to purchase a memento of 20 years of Crossfire. If you're interested in a
fantastic T-shirt featuring the cool Crossfire logo (modeled by some handsome
bear), don't forget to pre-register and check your T-shirt size on the registration
form. Shirts are $20 each ($25 for 2XL and 3XL). Special
Note: This is your last chance to attend Crossfire until 2011, since Chicago
will be host for the IAGSDC Convention in 2010. Come to Crossfire XX and find
out what Chicago Hospitality is all about! |
