Classmember's Corner

Welcome new and returning classmembers to the Finest City Squares!  Below you will find some links that may prove useful should you wish to do some extra studying.

Square Dance Call Definitions and Animations  This link is REALLY good.  Just click on the desired program (Mainstream, Plus, etc.) at the top.  Then choose a call.  Use the slider to move the dancers through the call at whatever speed you want.  This is much better than using the "Play" button because the slider lets you control the playback speed.

No new calls were taught tonight.  A special session was done where we taught the "gay" styling for the following calls:

Counter dance moves:

Calls that are themselves stylized:

  1. Slap your hands against your thighs

  2. Clap your hands

  3. Take the one you're facing by the fingers, boys cupping with palms up, girls cupping with palms down

  4. Kick with the right foot crossing to the left and yell "WOO!"

  5. Boys lift right arm and girls do a FULL (36O°) turn left (i.e. counter-clockwise) going under the boy's right arm).

  6. Drop hands and walk to the next dancer

The second and forth dancers are just normal left weave-bys

  1. Take the right hand as you would normally

  2. Take your left hands crossing them ABOVE the right hands

  3. The boy gently pulls on the girl's right hand with his right hand and turns her a full (360°) turn to her left (i.e. counter-clockwise).

  4. Drop hands and walk to the next dancer

The second and forth dancers are just normal left pull-bys
