About this site

If you are interested in learning how to dance, please contact us.  We will start a class when we have a sufficient number of people signed up.  New dancer classes are conducted every Wednesday evening at the First Congregational Church in Santa Ana. The cost is $7 per session.   Click on directions for a detailed map to our hall.  New Dancer Instruction will be throughout the evening from 7pm - 9:00 pm with one Plus tip included.

Class Format

Classes are designed to teach new dancers the first two levels of square dancing--basic and mainstream--over a six-month period.  (See below for more information about dance levels).  Although this may seem like a long time, this is an accelerated schedule compared to other area clubs.  The reason we do this is simple--we want our new dancers to be able to participate in our club dances and special events as quickly as possible.

Because we know that attending every week is not practical, the classes are structured to repeat a series of calls on three-week intervals.  Most students come every week because they are having such a good time with their new friends.

Next Class Offering

Open Houses for new classes begin September 9, 2009 from 7:00 - 9:00 PM.  However, you may drop in anytime to check us out without cost or obligation.  Note the first three classes are free to new dancers and there is no obligation to join.  Class officially begins on September 30, 2009. The class is generally closed to new people at the end of October.   If we have a sufficient number of interested people, we may start a new class at anytime of the year, so don't wait to let us know you are interested.

Square Dance Levels

There are several levels of square dancing, which may seem confusing at first.  Each level has a series of calls associated with it.   Subsequent levels build on the prior ones.  Therefore, you need to learn them in order.  The order of the levels is as follows:  Basic, Mainstream, Plus, Advanced (separated into A1 and A2), and Challenge (separated into C1, C2, C3A, C3B, and C4).

The vast majority of square dancers in the world dance at the mainstream and plus levels exclusively.  However, there are many in our club who dance at more advanced levels.  Our club is officially designated as Mainstream/Plus.
