Learn to Square Dance for the New Year! Announcing our condensed winter square dance class for beginners! If you've always wanted to learn, but the timing never seemed right, now is your chance!  Our Mainstream class starts Tuesday, January 3 meets every Tuesday evening through April 24. Square dancing is a great social activity, and can also provide a moderate aerobic workout, which could actually make it possible to keep your New Year's resolution about getting more exercise and to enjoy it at the same time. As with all our beginner classes, no experience required. Also, no partner, or funny clothes required, t-shirts, jeans and sneakers are pretty much the norm. Who Are We?

Independence Squares is Philadelphia’s Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual and Transgendered square dance club. The club teaches classes in the Mainstream, Plus, Advanced and Challenge 1 programs of modern Western square dancing. The call lists are those used by Callerlab™. Classes are open to all, and membership is contingent on completing the Mainstream program and paying dues. Dances are open to all dancers who have proficiency up to the level being danced. Current membership is approximately a 60/40 male/female ratio, and we welcome LGBT and straight dancers to join us.
