INTRODUCTION TO SQUARE DANCING: BARN DANCE and OPEN HOUSES Summer/Fall 2010

The Basic/Mainstream Square Dance Program consists of learning about 68 standardized calls, which prepares you for dancing with any square dance club in the world (See the International Association of Gay Square Dance Clubs "IAGSDC"). Classes typically begin in October, with Graduation in May. By December, students are encouraged to attend our regularly scheduled Club dances.

The Times Squares offers several opportunities for you to get acquainted with many of the calls through our annual Barn Dance and Open House Dances, where square dance basics are introduced -- and, it's a chance to get acquainted with our members. For these events and all of our classes, no partner or experience is necessary, and everything you need to know will be taught by a world-renown square dance caller.

Even the uninitiated can feel at home with quick instruction in Western square dancing with a live caller at the Annual Barn Dance and Intro to Square Dancing Open Houses.   Come alone or bring a partner. And make sure to dress comfortably – you’ll be moving all evening. ; You'll learn all about Modern Western square dancing, and many of the Basic/Mainstream calls and meet many of our members.  Bring your friends.  Light refreshments will be served. Admission is free!

ANNUAL BARN DANCE August 28, 2010 The LGBT Center, 208 W. 13 St., NYC. Time: 7:30 PM.

OPEN HOUSES Tuesday September 21 and Tuesday September 28 2010) The LGBT Center, 208 W. 13 St., NYC. Time: 7:30 PM.

BASIC/MAINSTREAM CLASSES BEGIN: Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at PS3, 490 Hudson between Christopher and Grove Streets. Time: 7:30 PM. It is not necessary to register prior to starting the class, nor to attend the Barn Dance or Open Houses. The weekly class fee is $10. Instructor: Nick Martellacci

PLUS CLASS:
The 2010-2011  Plus class will begin in October 2010  from 7:30 to 9:30PM and will continue through March 2011. The instructor will be announced. You must already be totally proficient in the full Mainstream program, and be approved, in order to participate. The weekly class fee is $10. The class will take place at PS3, 490 Hudson Street between Christopher and Grove. Instructor: Betsy Gotta
